Mike Protopapas, earned his MSc in Structural Dynamic
and Earthquake Resistant Design from Imperial College, London and his
Diploma in Civil/Structural Engineering from the National Technical University
in Athens, Greece.
During 1989 to 1995, he served as senior and principal
engineer in the Advanced Analysis and Technical Development Department
of Brown & Root (UK) one of the world leading engineering firms with
main responsibilities in design of floating and fixed offshore structures
(oil platforms fixed and floating), design of large oil tanks and their
foundations, design of oil and gas pipelines, non-linear and dynamic analysis
(using finite element methods), earthquake, fire and blast resistance
design, probabilistic analysis and fatigue and fracture of materials and
soil structures interaction.
During 1995 to date, he serves as lead civil/structural
engineer in the Monenco Agra Techmaster an international firm based in
Cyprus which was involved in the design of industrial power projects.
He is major responsibilities is the design of all civil and structural
works of the projects (power plants and substations) which includes design
of foundations of Turbines, Generators, Oil tanks and other electrical
and mechanical equipment, design of buildings (steel and concrete), design
of steel structures (i.e. transmission towers, gantries structures and
electrical equipment supports), design of roads and site drainage, design
of underground cable ducts and cable and pipe trenches in the site, etc.
